7 Ways to a Lock & Leave Lifestyle!

“ONE WAY to get out more is to make it easier to leave!”

You may have heard the phrase “Lock-N-Leave” or “Lock & Leave” and wondered if that’s just marketing jargon.  Actually, it is a lifestyle trend! As our population ages, baby boomers become seniors while Gen-X and younger become their helpers and caregivers, many searches to discover ways to simplify lifestyle choices such as home maintenance, travel, and logistics of holiday celebrations. All these ways of combating isolation, boredom, and adding adventure and fun as we age in place have become reasons for the pursuit of a lock & leave lifestyle.

7 Ways to a Lock & Leave Lifestyle

  1. Add it to your calendar – Simply, if not scheduled it likely will not happen! Make a plan, in writing, with a date!
  2. Make Your Home Easier to Leave – Reducing steps to getting away makes it a pleasure to plan.  Also, it systems up to your travel skills and improve your experience. Removing worry means reducing overwhelm, so have some things done ahead of time.
  3. Make Lists – Start with places to go.  Add, things to bring on every trip.  Now, steps to take before you leave.  These checklists in writing will help make your home secure while you are away, you have what you need when you leave, and you can enjoy a worry-free adventure.
  4. Improve Home Security – Modern technology has reduced prices and increased the effectiveness of home security.  Obviously, personal monitoring through smartphones has revolutionized both personal and home security.  Nowadays, cameras, motion/glass-break detectors, and garage door monitors are ala-cart items most services offer.  Many low-cost tech gadgets can remove worry and add both security and ease in keeping safety habits in your routine.
  5. Community and Neighborhood – Discover a community designed around lower maintenance, higher security or both.  Or, improve yours.
  6. Neighbor and Friend Network – Who should know where you are?  Who will watch your home or be available for emergencies? Who else?
  7. Optimize Your Home Size –  The lower the maintenance, the easier it is to come and go. Enjoy your home rather than keeping up with it.
